Our Classes

Kodokan Judo

Judo is a combat sport that doesn't demand physical prowess. From a standing position it teaches you to lift and throw your opponents onto their backs. On the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to pin your opponents down to the ground and apply various choke holds and joint locks until submission/breaking an opponents limbs.

Judo originated in Japan as a derivative of Samurai (classical) Jujutsu used over hundreds of years. Although many of the techniques of judo originated from these combat/warfare arts that were designed to hurt, maim, or kill opponents, the techniques of judo were modified so that judoka (judo student) can practice and apply these techniques safely and without hurting opponents:

Judo competition does not involve kicking, punching, or striking techniques of any kind. It does not involve the application of pressure against the joints to throw an opponent. Competition does not need protective equipment or weapons.

Though Judo does not teach those things for competition it does teach them for self defense. The main teaching style of Judo simply involves two individuals who, by gripping the judo uniform or gi, use the forces of balance, power, and movement to attempt to subdue each other.

The Judo classes are taught by Danial Huff Sensei Godan and Lionel Perrier Sensei Yo
